Beer and kvass

Beer and kvass go into 1-1.5 litre bottles made from heavy preforms, usually brown. The colour protects the drink from light and the thick wall holds the pressure.

What matters when choosing a preform

Light

Light gives beer off-flavours. Brown PET blocks part of the light, which is why beer uses brown preforms.

Oxygen

PET lets in more oxygen than glass. Long shelf life calls for barrier preforms; fast-selling draught beer works with standard ones.

Pressure

Beer and kvass are carbonated, so the weight is chosen as for soft drinks: the upper end of the range for your size.

Common questions

Do you have brown preforms?

Ask when ordering: tell us the weight and neck and we will find brown preforms in stock or to order.

Can beer go into a clear bottle?

Yes, if the product sells quickly and is kept out of the light. Taste and shelf life depend on storage.

What is a barrier preform?

A preform with an additive or layer that slows oxygen ingress and carbon dioxide loss. It is needed for long beer shelf life. Ask about availability.

We will match a preform to your product

Send the drink, bottle size and the neck on your line. We will reply with a recommendation, price and lead time.
